There is a feeling when I work in clay that takes over my senses and my awareness of time and place.  I don’t always have a plan when I start but just by holding the clay and working it I begin to formulate and create.  It usually ends in a realistic or semi-realistic piece with a sense of strong emotion or humor.

I work usually in terra cotta clay but I try not to use glazes for the finished piece that will give it a “ceramic” rather than “sculpture appearance.   I have experimented with many types of paints and stains and pigments for the patina on the pieces.  I love the “instant” gratification that comes from using ceramic clay, although it can also be frustrating if things don’t go right in the kiln.   I like the uniqueness of each piece.  Even with my bronze pieces I keep the editions small,  usually 10-12 for each.
